The Black Earth

“all things must be forsaken” -Meister Eckhart

Goya had been listening for a
long time, deaf ear to black earth,
hearing groans and signs of impending
distress. He knew time was short; life
now an alphabet of x, y, and soon to be z.

He chose nine pigments, three of them black,
and saw the world as wrongly displaced, filled
with savagery, a relentless stake in a harmonious
dream. Kneeling in despair, he painted the dark
images of a hidden world as haunted, unscripted.

Two hundred years later we stumble through the haze of
materialism’s acrid air; a world of burning rages,
visited by the backlash of an angry world. As a young
child near a hot stove, we lack attention to detail.

So come prepared. This black earth is filled
with rebellion and upset, it may burn our
tongues and scorch our unborn fantasies. The
flock of distraction is no excuse: pay heed,
show some kindness, and luck to us all.
