Choiceless

At midnight I realize
i n t e r d e p e n d e n c e
is the reason I’m up
at this hour, applying
skins of paint, one upon
another; layering, invoking, &
exciting the senses, when
deepening the silence would do.

But euphoria leads to evaporation,
evaporation brings about
whispers, and whispers
command a life led
by intimate exchange.

At midnight I’m tailgating elegance,
ready to forfeit the conceptual fight.
As the latticework of choices falls
apart, I rest in the stubble of unshaven
thoughts, & stand up knife-like,
ready to ride invincible.

A circulatory question.
Mutual dependence, the
blood that frolics.
